Matt Colgan is a Ph.D. student at Stanford University. He is also a research
staff member in the Asner Lab at the Department of Global Ecology.
His research interests focus on the analysis of remote sensing data
for tropical forests and savannas, and modeling of feedback loops between
carbon and nutrient cycles in these ecosystems. Future thesis work
will include studying the effects that large mammals (elephants,
wildebeests, etc.) have on the composition of vegetation in the
savannas and woodlands. Another goal of this work is to provide
estimates of savanna carbon stocks and fluxes at regional scales
using the Carnegie Airborne Observatory (CAO).
