Greg Asner is a faculty member of the Department of Global Ecology at the Carnegie Institution for Science.  He also holds a faculty position in the Department of Environmental Earth Systems Science at Stanford University.  His research aims to understand connections between ecosystems, resource use and climate change.  His recent work includes selective logging, forest disturbance and deforestation throughout the humid tropics, interactions between land use and vegetation change in the U.S., fire and herbivore interactions in African savannas, invasive species and biodiversity of tropical forests, and the impacts of livestock and biofuels production on global biogeochemical cycles.   Dr. Asner's remote sensing studies involve the use of new technologies for studies of ecosystem structure, function and biodiversity in the context of conservation and management.  He lead the Carnegie Airborne Observatory, an airborne remote sensing program focused on regional studies of ecosystem function, structure, and biodiversity.
